Course Highlights
Very unique approach to a cross between links style and parkland course. Lots of green and not that many trees in play. Players looking for the very shortest turf may not like the slightly longer tee box and fairway grass but based on a small survey, most people won't notice. What you will notice is that the tee boxes are very large and very flat. The fairways run smooth and have minimal divots. Greens were near immaculate. Putts may be half-point slower on the stimp meter but very appropriate speed to match level of interesting undulation. Five sets of tee boxes spread from 4,200 yards out to 6,800 which is outstanding range. On the day we played (grass length aside), this course actually had some of the best overall conditions we have seen from any of the 75+ public golf courses in the Twin Cities. Helped no doubt from the complete remodel three years ago.
Par 3 and Driving Range - Very large grass driving range was recently remodeled and is one of the nicest around. The par 3 features nine holes of varying length, stretching out to 200 yards or so on the longest one. Also has 5 different tee boxes, which is way more than usual for a short course. Includes several short lengths that are great for juniors or short hitters. Although not as well maintained as the championship course, it provides a great practice option in a casual atmosphere.
Condition*
9.2
Conditions across the board were fantastic. The only thing holding back a huge score here is the recognition that most premium courses are slightly shorter grass and preferred by some selective golfers.
Playability
8.3
Greens, fairways, and hazards all interesting designs although some holes can feel similar. Forced carries and blind shots on the little bit high side. No housing around the holes which is great for a city course.
Visual Impact
8.8
Nice use of elevation on several holes. Trees, water, prairie grass, and traps all present and add to visual appeal. Sand not white but bunkers maintained very well. Overall course looks great.
